Unknown to many and often discovered only by serendipity, are the flowing streams and rivers that coarse through the Broken Bow landscape. The major vein of water travels through the Mountain Fork River. In the Lower Mountain Fork River, that below the lake dam, trout are stocked on a regular basis by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. Species found here include the rainbow and brown trout.
Broken Bow Lake, with 180 miles of shoreline, spans over 20 miles and has some of the deepest and clearest water around the Texas and Oklahoma region. With over 14,000 acres, the lake is surrounded by the tall piney Kiamichi wilderness, with picturesque rocky cliffs jutting through the forest.
Fishing the lake you will have opportunities at reeling in many types and species. They include crappie, channel catfish, walleye, white bass, largemouth bass, small mouth bass, sunfish, and spotted bass. It is truly one of the most beautiful lakes in the southern United States. Rapidly gaining popularity for it's vast openness. There is only one marina, and no permanent non-state park structures on the lake. Several boat ramps are available to launch from. The U.S. Corps of Engineers manages the lake, maintaining a pristine and natural appeal. If it is one of your first trips, Broken Bow Lake and Mountain Fork River fishing guides are available to make your outings more worthwhile. Whether it's the experienced fly fisherman or a toddler grasping their first rod and reel, the living waters around Broken Bow will transport you into another world.
